REMINDER: Bluefish Game has been cancelled

Tonight's trip to the game has been cancelled due to weather.  Keep an eye out for a replacement event.

REMINDER: Bluefish coming on Monday!

Don't forget that our year-end Bible Quizzing Event is Monday at the Bridgeport Bluefish!  We're meeting at 6:30 PM to buy the ticket (about $10 each) and go in together.  Bring some extra money to buy dinner and any souvenirs you may want.  It's Trumbull and Monroe together!

DISTRICTS: See you at the Van!

We're meeting at the church at 4:00 PM tonight to leave for Districts in Dallas, PA.  Please arrive a little early, if possible, so we can be ready to go promptly.

The Trumbull Team will be picking us up, and stopping at Chipotle for dinner.  Once we arrive, we'll hang out in the camp gym until bedtime at 10 PM.

DISTRICTS: What do I pack?

We leave for Districts tomorrow afternoon.  If you're going to be packing today/tonight, here is a good list to use as you fill your duffle bag.

ABSOLUTELY DO NOT FORGET:

• Either money for dinner Friday at Chipotle or a bag dinner
• Sleeping gear for Friday night (sleeping bag, pillow, etc.)
• Your Quiz Team shirt
• Long Pants for Saturday quizzing (you can change into shorts after quizzing is done)

RECOMMENDATIONS FOR YOUR SUITCASE:

• A warm/rain jacket for Friday night (Low of 45 with rain predicted overnight)
• Study materials including your scripture portion
• Toiletries (warm showers will be available)
• An alarm clock (or multifunction device with an alarm app)

If possible, please pack in a soft suitcase for maximum packing flexibility.

REMINDER: Practice resumes tonight!

Practice resumes tonight!  We'll see you there at the usual time.  We'll be quizzing on all chapters of Acts.

REMINDER: "Spring" forward tonight

Tonight we begin Daylight Savings Time, and "Spring" forward an hour.  Set your clocks ahead so you don't arrive at church at the wrong time tomorrow!

Watching for Snow!

The current forecast calls for snow beginning sometime between 9 AM and 3 PM, and continuing through Wednesday morning!  The coaches are keeping a close eye on things, and will let you know if practice gets cancelled.  Cancellations would be posted here and on the church facebook page, as well as sent via e-mail.

We hope to see you tonight.  If not, remember we will NOT be stopping but will continue onto Acts 20 and quiz on both chapters next week.

Midwinter Quiz Meet is tomorrow!  Don't miss out.  Here are a few quick reminders.

ARRIVAL TIME:  8:30 AM to help with setup

COST: $5 for pizza

END TIME:  ~1:30 PM

Please remember these important details:

• We leave the church at 5 PM.
• We’ll eat dinner in the car.
• We’ll arrive at Camp Orchard Hill between 8:30 PM and 9 PM.
• We’ll be able to play in the gym, but must be in our cabins by 10:30 PM.

And, of course, please double-check your packing list:

• Quiz Team shirt and long pants for Saturday
• A sleeping bag and pillow for the camp
• A bag dinner for the trip down to Dallas, PA on Friday night
• $10 to stay in camp
• Any study materials you need
• Toiletries and a towel

Some Midwinter Reminders - THE RULES

The full set of rules governing Bible Quizzing can always be found here (or in the sidebar), but here are a few quick reminders to keep in mind as we approach the Midwinter Bible Quiz.

TIMING:

• After the question is asked, both teams have 10 seconds to jump on a question.
• For Multiple Part and Finish the Verse questions, quizzers have 45 seconds to answer.
• For all other questions, quizzers have 30 seconds to answer.

QUIZ OUTS & BONUSES:

• Quizzers can Quiz Out right with 5 correct answers.  If you have no wrong answers, quizzers get a bonus of +10.
• Quizzers can Quiz Out wrong with 3 wrong answers.
• If 4 quizzers on one team answer a quiz question correctly, the team gets a +10 team bonus.
• If 5 quizzers on one team answer a quiz question correctly, the team gets another +10 team bonus.

CONTESTS:

• A captain must be assigned before the quiz begins.
• The captain is the only one who can present a Contest or Counter-Contest.  
• If the captain quizzes out, another captain must be assigned.
• If a quizzer believes a quizmaster has ruled in error (either right for the other team or wrong for their own team), they may ask to confer with their captain.  (A captain may choose any member of their team to confer with.)
• Conferring lasts 30 seconds.
• The captain may then present the contest.  They have 30 seconds.
• The captain of the other team may then choose to confer for 30 seconds with any member of their team.
• The captain may then present a counter-contest.  They have 30 seconds.
• The quizmaster will then rule.  They may uphold their ruling, overturn it, or declare a do-over with a new question (of the same type as the original).  There is no further appeal.
• Contests can cover the content of the answer only.  The question asked can not be contested.

If you have any questions, be sure to ask the coaches before we quiz on Saturday.

WHERE ARE WE GOING?  Northern Valley Evangelical Free Church in Cresskill, NJ
WHAT IS THE COST?  $5 (for lunch)
WHAT CHAPTERS ARE WE QUIZZING ON?  Romans 1 & 2
WHAT TIME ARE WE GETTING BACK? Around 3:00 PM.  (You can call your ride from the road.)
WHAT ELSE DO I NEED TO BRING?  Yourself, your quiz team shirt (or a red shirt/sweatshirt/sweater of about the same color), your scripture portion, and maybe some quizzes for the car!

REMINDER:  You can't go unless your Event and Health Forms have been turned into the coaches (or Pastor Greg).

Practices begin one week from today on Sunday, September 15 at ~10:15 AM in the Round Room.  Time to crack open your scripture portions and start studying.  Remember, we're working in the ESV this year, so be sure to study that and not the NIV!
